Frequently Asked Questions: ESL Language & Cultural Coaching

Cross-cultural coaching is a process in which an (ESL) language coach helps individuals to identify their language and cultural goals, overcome obstacles relating to culture and language, accomplish short-term goals and make progress toward long-term goals.

In an ESL language & cross-cultural coaching session, you can expect to work in collaboration to:

• identify current language and/or cultural challenges 
• identify both short-term and long term goals
• discuss & practice strategies to actively work toward reducing or overcoming language and cultural obstacles 
• discuss & practice strategies to accomplishing both immediate and long-term goals

Your coach will provide guidance, support, and accountability to help you achieve your goals.

The length of an ESL language & cross-cultural coaching program depends on the individual, their circumstances, needs, dedication, and goals. I have worked with some individuals for short 2-3 week "deep immersion" sessions - for example while visiting the area on vacation, or for business, and have collaborated with others for a span of many years - some on a regular (typically weekly) basis, and others as a life-time resource, on an as-needed basis (see the life-time subscription option for more info).

Field Trip Studies are  great additional option* if you want to expedite your learning & recall of both English language (particularly conversation, listening, vocabulary,  pronunciation & reading) and culture through experiential learning and utilizing multiple senses & a heightened sense of excitement. Field Trip Studies can be short (1 HR) or longer, and will be designed with your interests, timeline,  and needs in mind.  I ensure they are safe, comfortable, fun, informative, engaging and memorable - making learning both more entertaining and efficient! 

Field Trip Studies can be especially useful if you are: 

• New to the Bay Area or U.S. and want to gain confidence and familiarize yourself with the area and culture, as well as improve your conversation skills
• Visiting the Bay Area or U.S. for a short period of time and want to expedite improvement of  your English skills and learn more about the culture along with having memorable experiences
• Have lived in the area for some time, but you want to see more of the area and gain greater confidence conversing in English
• Interested in improving your English language conversation/listening skills through various activities, rather than while sitting at a table.
